Regional Highlights

  • The Regional Refugee Coordinator and Special Advisor for the South Sudan Situation, Mr. Arnauld Akodjenou, gave an interview to the Radio France International where he spoke about the critical humanitarian situation of South Sudanese. South Sudan situation remains the second largest refugee crisis in the region with 2.5 million refugees hosted by six countries (Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda).

  • On 5th August, the Agreement on Outstanding Issues of Governance and power-sharing (ARCSS) was signed by all parties to the South Sudan conflict in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The Secretary-General of the United Nations welcomed the signing of the Agreement and urged all parties to work in good faith and fully commit for the implementation and finalization of the revitalized ARCSS towards a fair, inclusive and sustainable peace.

  • South Sudanese refugee, Ms. Betty Zekra shined at the roundtable on the celebration of the World Humanitarian Day held on the 17th August 2018, organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). While addressing the theme, humanitarian access and protection of civilians, Betty shared her personal experience and voiced the brunt borne by the South Sudanese refugees as result of the conflict calling upon all to continue advocating for a sustainable peace in South Sudan.
