ISIS militants attack government posts in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) attacked on Sunday at night several posts of the Syrian government forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, causing material damage and injuries.

A military source in the government forces told North Press that ISIS militants used vehicles equipped with machine guns to attack posts of the government forces on the outskirts of the village of al-Masrab in the west of Deir ez-Zor.

The attack led to clashes that lasted for about an hour, then the militants fled the area, the source added.

The source pointed out the government forces sent reinforcement to the scene of the attack and conducted combing operations after the clashes.

Additionally, the attack resulted in the injury of three soldiers and caused material damage to the posts and vehicles in the targeted locations, according to the source.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of Syria as it stretches across the governorates of Hama, Homs, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor.

Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which witness regular attacks, mostly claimed by the ISIS.

On May 2, ISIS militants killed 13 members of the National Defense Forces (NDF), a militia affiliated with the government forces, in the Syrian Desert.
