U.S. Embassy Belize and partners assist 4,000 people prepare documents and apply for Amnesty program

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the United States Embassy in Belize said that with funding from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, in cooperation with partners at the Government of Belize, UNHCR Belize, UNICEF Belize, and IOM Belize has assisted 4000 people prepare documents and apply for Belize’s amnesty program.

This Amnesty program allows individuals to regularize their status and contribute to Belize’s future.

“The United States is committed to supporting the unity and prosperity of Belize. We strongly promote the fundamental human rights of all persons and affirm our commitment to assist refugees, asylum seekers, vulnerable migrants, and the host countries that support them,” the U.S. Embassy said.

The application period began on August 2, 2022, and ends on November 30, 2022.

The processing period runs from December 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023.
