Working with Partners

  • The Dadaab refugee operation is coordinated by UNHCR Sub-Office Dadaab, which also serves the three camps in Dadaab Sub County. UNHCR Field Office Alinjugur is part of the larger Dadaab operation and serves Hagadera in Fafi Sub County. Both UNHCR offices cooperate closely with NGOs and other international organizations, among them WFP, UNICEF and IOM. The main government counterpart is the Refugee Affairs Secretariat (RAS).
  • UNHCR continues to work closely with the Government of Kenya, the Turkana County Government through the Office of the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), the Refugee Affairs Secretariat (RAS) and partners to ensure support to refugees and asylum seekers. Monthly Inter-Agency meetings chaired by UNHCR and RAS continue to be held including monthly meetings with refugee representatives in the camp.
  • The Kalobeyei Settlement initiative is implemented in collaboration with the government, humanitarian and development agencies, refugees and host community, NGOs, private sector and civil society to build sustainable services and economic opportunities in the settlement area. Key actors include the National and County Governments, UNHCR, Word Food Programme (WFP), Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and Norwegian Refuge Council (NRC), amongst other key implementing partners. UNHCR is present in Kalobeyei on a daily basis and provides counselling to refugees on various issues of concern.
  • UNHCR continued to hold a joint protection desk with Kenya Refugee Affairs Secretariat (RAS) at the refugee processing center, Shauri Moyo, Nairobi.
